Hi I am bob. I had a triple bypass in July 2015, unfortunately I had complication,a collapsed lung and pnuemonia so my stay was extended to 13 days in hospital. At your six week checkup at the London hospital I informed them that I had a severe pain in the right chest which felt like a hot knife penetrating when my right arm was in certain positions. At this time it was felt it was soon after surgery. Time went on and it became very severe at one point having to call emergency ambulance. I had seen my G
P who referred me back to the the London surgeon where it was decided to remove the sternum wires. Within four weeks of this consultation I received the date for admittance planned surgery for the 15/02/2016 but this was cancelled but the following day Tuesday it was performed and all the wires were removed and with them went the pain hooray I can get my life back. All seems well with the heart and now wait for the stitches to heal. I must also say the local cardiac team have been supportive and helpful .
Lynee Casper Glad they figured it out, and you are feeling so much better

Sophia Ridley Hi Bob, I'm glad to hear all's now well. Out of curiosity, which hospital were you treated at? I had a mitral valve repair at the Brompton.
I have pain at the bottom of my sternum which the GP thinks is the costal cartilage for my lower right ribs. Was this where your pain was (it isn't as bad as yours)? Did you have to push for them to correct it? I also still have the knots from the dissolvable stitches, and a lump on my sternum. It's still quite tender even though I'm 3mths.

Bob Cheffins Hi sophia. I am sorry to hear that you still have pain I know how that feels, but mine was in the right hand side of my chest in the upper region. When I went to the Gp there was no problem referring me back to st thomas' hospital and everything was set in motion quickly. I must say that I kept saying to them about the wires! I had the fatty lump at the top of the sternum for several months months which slowly disappeared. Has anyone else had a problem with the statins I was on 40mg of atvorstatin an d after about 2/3 months the muscle pain was so bad I could hardly walk so I stopped them and luckily once through my body I could walk again.
Thanks to all of you reading my journal hope you all improve every day
