About Me (In My Own Words)
I was diagnosed with Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy with Obstruction & Mitral Valve Regurgitaion in Dec. of 2015. On Nov. 25th 2016, I had Septal Myectomy surgery performed at the Cleveland Clinic. The Heart surgery was to remove part of the septal wall that is thickening due to the HCM. Surgery went well everyone said. I was healing good. 1 hour before I was to be released from the hospital, one of the surgery team docs entered my room and advised that he had some bad news. He advised that the Surgeon wanted a better view of the Mitral Valve. They scheduled me for a different type of echo "TTP" I think. Basically they send a camera down your esophagus to look at the Mitral Valve. After that was done, I was advised that the Mitral Valve was regurgitating severely and I would need to have it replaced with a mechanical valve. Also, they said that I would need another Myectomy, due to there was more thickening of the heart muscle that needed to be removed. So, 10 days after my first surgery, I had another one. I am still healing and dealing with my new normal. It has been difficult to say the least, but it is what it is. HCM sucks!
