About Me (In My Own Words)
Updating my story on April 6th, 2022
In January 2022 I had an episode of tachycardia for two day where my HR was 125 awake and sleeping. Visited UVA ER and lots of test were run and additional Metoprolol given with no success. 6mg of Adenosine was given to stop the heart and when it restarted things returned to a normal rate. I was sent home with an additional follow-up with cardiology.
During February flash back to January, the same situation with tachycardia again. Visited UVA ER again, less testing this time and Adenosine given to reset things and sent home.
March same tachycardia occurred again but only went for 1 day and reset itself overnight while sleeping.
April 4th follow up echocardiogram performed
April 5th received a call from cardiologist with bad news that Aortic valve needed replacing again.
Previous-- I was born with a bicuspid aortic valve (two leaflets rather than three). This condition allows blood flow to flow back into my heart when my heart is at rest. At the age of 11 I had open heart surgery to peform a repair on my aortic valve to help improve this condition. I have always been told at some point I would have to go under the knife again. When I met with the cardiologist in December 2012 he advised that my condition (Aortic Stenosis and enlargement of my ascending aorta) was at the point to where I would need to think about surgery in the near future before I started seeing effects of the condition. That puts me where I am at today at the age of 42, follow my journal to keep up with me.
