About Me (In My Own Words)
I was found to have an Thoracic Aortic Aneurysm at the age of 52 which has been monitored ever since. It now extends to the aortic root (4.7 cm), mid-ascending aorta (5.0 cm) with aortic regurgitation. Being an RN I definitely believe in advocating for myself and have done a lot of research. I became aware of the new ACC guidelines for 2022 in November 2022 and studied those. Although I did not understand everything in those, I did feel confident that I needed to be seen by someone who knew a lot more about aneurysms than my current cardiologist. I decided to seek help from the Cleveland Clinic in Weston FL. When my echo and CT scans showed I was at 5 cm, I requested surgical consultation with Dr. Roselli. I am now scheduled to see Dr. Roselli as well as a cardiologist, geneticist, and have another echo and CT 9/29/23. To complicate things even further my sister has now has an echocardiogram and also has an ascending aortic aneurysm and dilatation of the root. To my knowledge there are no early deaths in my family history. However, I have a niece who was discovered to have an ASD at the age of 21, a nephew who was born with aortic stenosis, a sister (their mom) who had scoliosis, and both I and my siblings developed arthritis early. I also have a very tall, thin son who has a pectus carinatum and who had amblyopia, as well as a nephew with amblyopia. In my research I have discovered all of these can be seen in Loes Dietz syndrome, so I am expecting there to be some type of genetic variant(s) found in my genetic testing. I am also aware that in LDS dissection/rupture can occur at smaller sizes. This brings me to my question: does anyone know, in a situation such as mine, how soon Dr. Roselli schedules someone for surgery after there initial appointment with him? Do you find out the day of your appointment when your surgery will be? I feel like I know way too much now, and am probably overreacting, but I do have that "time bomb in the chest" type of feeling!
