About Me (In My Own Words)
Diagnosed with bicuspid aortic valve at 50 years old, had surgery at 64 years old, the day after surgery I went into stage 3 heart block and was told I needed a permanent pacemaker; after being told I needed a 2nd surgery to implant the pacemaker, depression set in causing me to cry for no reason, after 6 days/5 nights I went home, the single best thing I did in recovery was cardiac rehab, it relieved a tremendous amount of stress when I realized my heart was going to hold up and the harder I worked out the better I felt, the mental part of the entire process was much harder to deal with for me than the physical aspect of open heart surgery and recovery.
