About Me (In My Own Words)
Apoligies in advance for the long and complicated history.
I had a mitral valve repair (due to a ruptured cord) in 2012. Later that year, I fainted and after wearing a holter monitor, it was discovered that I had NSVT (non-sustained ventricular tachycardia). They tried to ablate the arrhythmia but couldn't and the doctors theorized that scar tissue from the surgery was the cause of the arrhythmia. As my heart rates were very fast and erratic, an ICD (Internal Cardiac Defibrillator) was implanted and I was put on anti-arrythmic medication.
Everything was fine until 2017, when I started experiencing shortness of breath when climbing stairs. An echo showed my valve was leaking again and that I had severe mitral reguritation. Apparently, the repair is intact, but the tissue is very myxomatous and has degraded. As my heart structure was sound, I decided to take the watchful waiting approach and my doctor agreed as long as I had echos every 4 months. Shortly after that, my defibrillator fired twice (after I fainted, both times) and they changed my medicines. I continued to have arrhythmias and they have now added another medicine to help control the dangerous rhythms.
My doctors now feel like the arrhythmias are being caused by the leaky valve and want me to have it replaced....and soon. They have mentioned the term "malignant mitral valve". Has anyone heard or been diagnosed with this?
