About Me (In My Own Words)
I am a 38 year old female athlete and was surprisingly diagnosed with an aortic aneurysm, aortic valve leak and a myocardial bridge in November 2013. I underwent valve sparing aortic aneurysm repair and unroofing of the myocardial bridge on February 4, 2014 at Stanford Hospital. The following day I had a stroke which led to the finding of a PFO in my heart. I underwent a second OHS on February 7, 2014 to repair the PFO. I spent 7 days in the ICU which was very traumatic for me. I ended up being diagnosed with ICU psychosis because I was not sleeping and was having severe hallucinations. I am now 8 weeks post op and physically feeling pretty good. I am hiking each day and I am really looking forward to getting back to my bike riding, golf and skiing. I have been struggling a bit to get back " mentally". I am having a bit of depression and it's been difficult to re-engage with my very busy job. I am thankful everyday to the team at Stanford who took very good care of me.
