About Me (In My Own Words)
I had aortic valve replacement surgery July 13, 2018. I was having some shortness of breath during exercise, but I just thought I was out of shape. One day during work, my heart started racing and it sent me to immediate care. There they did an EKG , which sent me to a cardiologist. An echocardiogram and angiogram confirmed that I had severe stenosis due to a biscuspid aortic valve. I had the surgery at the University of Chicago and it was done minimally invasive. During the surgery the nerves were damaged and I ended up with a pacemaker and complete block, unfortunately I was never informed that this was a possibility and it has been a very emotional road living with a pacemaker. However, I am nearly one year out from the surgery and a feel good.
