About Me (In My Own Words)
Hi my name is Peter! I work as a veterinarian in the vast grasslands and deserts of remote Australia! I work with cattle, horses, dogs, cats and various wildlife that live in the outback of Australia!
I never knew I had a heart problem until 2 months before my surgery (at 30 years of age) Ive always had shortness of breath, chronic tiredness and constant migraines since I was 6 years old. However doctors have never checked my heart and due to living in remote areas and the harshness of my working conditions (long hours with strenous physical work under 50 degrees heat in the desert) no one, including myself thought about a heart problem. Unfortunately by the time they diagnosed my aortic valve 3 months ago, the valve was very very severely regurgitating with a severely dilated left ventricle with decreased function.
Thankfully, I still qualified for the ross procedure! And the beautiful surgical team assessed my heart and pulmonary valve during the surgery and decided to give me a chance with the ross procedure! I had my surgery 2 weeks ago! And is recovering well! Despite a bit of complications with bleeding, liver/kidney damage from bypass and decreased left ventricular function.
We are positive that everything will just be sufficient for me to have a normal life!
