About Me

Hi, I was diagnosed with severe mitral valve regurgitation in July, 2016 and my surgery is scheduled for January 19th. I really wanted to have my surgery sooner but had several other things to attend to like getting my daughter settled for her first year of college. My diagnosis involves a posterior flail leaflet with 2 torn chordae's. My results from the echo and TEE show that I have physiologic changes to my heart (thickening of my left ventricle and pulmonary hypertension 2x above normal). After several discussions with my Surgeon and Cardiologist I have decided to choose a sternonomy instead of a minimally invasive approach. For me I just feel more comfortable with this decision and I'm not worried about having the looks of the scar. I have completed my Pre-op workup and am really looking forward to getting this surgery behind me. I'm 54 years old.
