I was diagnosed with mitral valve prolapse in 2000 after experiencing some chest pain and heart palpitations. I was 33 years old at the time. Aside from the occasional palpitations, which I can usually attribute to a little too much caffeine, I haven’t been too concerned about the MVP over the years since the diagnosis. Admittedly, I have not been good about follow up with cardiology. My last echo was in 2018. At that time, I was told I had moderate prolapse and moderate regurgitation. Lately I’ve been experiencing a lot of fatigue and a lack of energy. Because I’ve been traveling over the last 8 years, I don’t have a primary care physician. I’m trying to establish care where I’m now based and am finding the long wait for an appointment frustrating. I was told by Duke Cardiology that it would be two months until the first opening and another clinic closer to my home has a month wait. Wishing there was a way to get in for an echo in the meantime, but am being told that is important to be evaluated by a cardiologist first. I’m on the cancellation list, so hoping I can get in sooner than later.
