in 2015 I had my atrial and mitral valves replaced with bio prosthetic (cow) valves. I also had a pacemaker implanted. Fast forward to August 2021 and I experienced shortness of breath, again, and knew what had happened. Both valves failed after only 6 years! I had both valves replaced in October 2021 with two mechanical valves. The surgeon also performed a hemi commando procedure due to underlying aortic issues. I had a congenital heart defect and had surgery to repair my aorta at age 7. I moved to Sand Diego recently and discovered the Adult Congenital Heart program at University of San Diego. I'm grateful to be in a community of patients who understand medical issues.
