About Me (In My Own Words)
I learned that I had a heart murmur when I was 10 years old. It didn't bother me but was so loud that my parents heard it one day and that's how it was discovered. No problems until I was a teenager and I had a irregular heartbeat, I was put on Inderal. I stopped about 5 years later as I was not having any problems.Fast forward to 2015 I began to notice that I was getting out of breath easy than normal. My Dr. referred me to a cardiologist who did an ECHO I was found to have mild to moderate mitral valve regurgitation. My cardiologist said that it would be years before I would need a repair if the regurgitation got worse. I was suppose to come back in a year to get a repeat ECHO I didn't go in 2016 but went back in 2017. My cardiologist said that my regurgitation was severe and that I needed surgery, this came as quite a surprise, although I was getting out of breath much more easily and very tired. I went for a second opinion at Cleveland Clinic and after 6 months of testing was scheduled for Mitral Valve repair. It's been just over two months since my surgery. I had my follow up appointment last week. My ECHO showed my Ejection Fraction at 32%. My cardiologist said that my heart was still weak from the surgery. I started cardiac rehab a few weeks ago.
