Send Kathleen a NoteAbout Me
I was born with a bicuspid aorta which was discovered in 2004. My cardiologist has been following ever since with annual ECGs. In Dec 2013 he wanted me back in 6 mths. So in July after my ECG, he called to say it was time for a replacement valve. I was schedule for surgery Aug 24, 2014 but CT of my chest had an anomaly on the edge and the radiologist suggested an abdominal CT. That showed a tumor of the mesentery. General surgeon took it out but the pathologists at Lutheran in Colorado we not sure what it was. 2 weeks later my surgeon called to say the Harvard pathologist diagnosed it as synovial sarcoma. ( a rare form of cancer). So I had a PET scan to determine it had not spread and an additional surgery to remover bigger margins. I had 4 chemo sessions with Ifosfomide and scan showed NED (no evidence of disease). I will be going back for scans every 3 months as sarcoma like to reoccur and spread.
NOW finally I am back on schedule for my new aortic valve on Tues 3/31/15. Been a long journey to this point. I am ready to start a new healthy life enjoying my Grandchildren.
