About Me (In My Own Words)
Just saw a surgeon at KU Med yesterday to consult for mitral valve repair. He said I am not a candidate for robotic repair due to my weight - I have a BMI of 33. But I have read studies that directly contradict that opinion - that robotic may actually be safer than the sternotomy option. Plus he called me "morbidly obese", which is wrong - my BMI and weight qualify me as obese, but in no way qualifies me as morbidly obese. I think it is important to be precise, when possible, don't you? Especially when we're talking heart surgery! So I plan on getting a second opinion at another hospital. I'm in the Kansas City region.
