About Me (In My Own Words)
About two years ago I started having signs of heart problems. I wore a monitor and was sent to a cardiologist. He ran tests and prescribed medication that seemed to help. However this year I had an echogram and it showed that the valve had gotten alot worse and it needed to be fixed, not an emergency but needed taken care of in the near future.
I was sent to a cardiologist in Ocala and he said he intended on doing a full sternotomy and that was the only way to go. I have had two abdominal surgery and know the pain involved and wanted something less invasive.
I downloaded Adams book and called the book's phone number for I was having some trouble getting the book into my ipad and Adam answered the phone. We spoke for quite a while and he recommended a doctor in Orlando that I went to see. I was impressed with the man but he does a minimally invasive procedure which still opens up the rib cage just not as large opening. I set up a date to have the procedure done but it wasn't really what I wanted.
Then my son called me who is in the medical field and his office manager had just returned from a seminar and the speaker was a man that just had rebotic surgery on two heart valves. He was so pleased with the procedure that my son had me call him at his home to talk about this method of surgery. After over half an hour and looking at the information on the computor I decided to call St. Joseph hospital in Atlanta . I was told to send my records and cd disks of my tests and if I was a candidate they would set up an appointment to meet with Dr. Murphy.
Well, I did qualify for the procedure and we traveled to Atlanta. It was a great hospital and there is a hotel on the corner of the grounds that provides you with a shuttle to take you to the hospital.
We met with Dr. Murphy and was very impressed with him. He is 95% sure he can repair the valve. The procedure is called the DaVincilear.com. They make 5 small holes in the right side between the ribs and work on the back of the heart. Recovery time is much less as is risk of infection.
I am scheduled for surgery on January 25th. Will try and keep you posted as I go along. Will have my girls write when I can't.
