In my own words:

It started with a heart murmur, 11 or so years ago. Never in all my doctor visit's had I ever been told I had one, I am 64 yrs. Old. Well I continued on, only seeing one heart specialist in all these years, and at one point my family doctor told me he didn't hear the heart murmur any longer. Well further on down, my family doctor told me I had Emphysema ( I smoked for many years ) but all was still not bad at all, I walked alot, cut the grass every week and did laundry once a week while climbing up and down 18 steps to the basement. One day I decided to walk to the store I have a long hill down my street well I got about three houses down from mine and started to notice I was getting short of breath. ( it had been a few month's since I had taken my usual walks ) and I thought it was because of that that I was short of breath... Well I waked down the hill with difficulty and on the way back up the hill I had to stop because I could not breath and panting very hard. Of course I had a heart cath and was found with the bad aortic valve. So now after about 14 yrs I am day's away from the surgery.
