About Me (In My Own Words)
Diagnosed with bacterial endocarditis in 1982. Underwent an MVR surgery with a mechanical Bjork-Shiley mitral valve. In 1993 this valve was replaced with an adult sized St. Jude mechanical valve. This valve will be 24 years old next month. It is now failing. I am faced with doing a risky third OHS for MVR or seeking a second opinion to try to find out what is on my valve obstructing flow. I am hoping it is a thrombus, and maybe we can try t.p.a. treatment to save the valve before trying a third MVR.
