About Me (In My Own Words)
Family history of heart/valve disease - Born with congenital heart disease - mitral and aortic stenosis and mitral was 'upside down'. First surgery when I was 14 months old to replace mitral with mechanical valve roughly beginning of 1994. Second surgery roughly in summer of 1997 to replace mitral once again with another mechanical as I had grown out of first one. I did fine up until age 13 when I started noticing shortness of breath - aortic valve at this time had lasted me this long but was getting too narrow - I then had what they called a 'balloon valvuloplasty' for aortic valve which lasted me another 4 years which put me at needing another balloon valvuloplasty at age 17. This last procedure did not work and a few months later beginning of 2010 I had my actual aortic diseased valve (strong little fella lasted 17 years!) replaced with a mechanical valve and at this time also had my mechanical mitral valve cleaned off (tissue build up). Now living with 2 mechanical valves! This was my most recent cardiac surgery but have since been diagnosed with pulmonary hypertension. Thanks for sticking with me if you actually read all of that!! =)
