About Me (In My Own Words)
It's exactly 8 weeks since I had my surgery. I spent 11 days in ICU & stepdown unit. Had a tissue valve implanted & 4X CABG & a pacemaker implanted as well. Surgery was long, but all went perfect. First 4 days were the worst. But after that everything has gone great. Valve is fine, pacemaker doing its job. My recovery so far has been totally event free as my BP with meds is normal, even during my exercise as I have now started my 4th week of cardiac rehab. Absolutely no chest pain. My breathing is effortless even while doing exercise. Only thing I noticed is I have a higher resting HR. But I've been told by my cardiologist that this is normal after the surgery and will normalize as recovery continues, in fact to a small degree it has already started. I could not have imagined how easy this has been for me. Very little discomfort from the incisions, which all have healed very well. And I am now walking as much as I want without any discomfort. I hope I dont jinx myself. My team of doctors and all the staff who attended to me were AWESOME and I could not have had a better experience or outcome. The doctors all said one of the main reasons I have done so well was that I had been exercising regularly for over 40 years, I am 2 months away from being 72. My heart muscles were in excellent condition as I was very lucky with the all the severe blockages and lack of blood flow that I never had a major attack. They were somewhat amazed that I had avoided it, as 2 of the main arteries were blocked over 90%. So all in all I feel lucky to have survived and doing so well. I pray it continues.
