About Me (In My Own Words)
I am a 62 yr old telemetry RN (I work on a cardiac floor). In 2013 I was experiencing dizziness, shortness of breath, fatigue, and palpitations. Was diagnosed with moderate mitral regurgitation & frequent pvc's (more than 800/hour). Ablation was not an option as the pvc's were multifocal. They have been well controlled with 100mg of Metoprolol ER, but fatigue, dizziness, shortness of breath, and activity intolerance continue. Working 12 hour shifts at the hospital is exhausting, and I spend my days off just trying to recover so I can do it again. Just had a heart cath & tee on 10/24/16. Mitral regurgitation is now severe, so I will need surgery. I am currently waiting on my post-procedure follow up visit with my cardiologist, and sugery consult. My husband & I are trying not to freak out. He is a retired RN, so we are both very aware of all the things that could go wrong. Trying very hard to think positively & look forward to feeling better after surgery. I would greatly appreciate hearing about positive outcomes and improved quality of life, and suggestions for controlling fear and negativity. Also, being a caregiver, it is very hard for me to accept that I will have to be dependent on others for a while.
