About Me (In My Own Words)
I was diagnosed with Mitral Valve Prolapse at the age of 28. My primary care doctor heard what he described as a clicking in my heartbeat. Nothing serious, just something to keep an eye on. 28 years later while in the hospital for an unrelated illness, I’m told my Mitral Valve Prolapse has developed into Severe Mitral Valve Regurgitation.
My surgery is scheduled for November 22, 2024. Unfortunately, I am not a candidate for the less invasive robotic mitral valve repair procedure, so my surgery will be open heart. I am doing my best to prepare myself and stay positive.
