About Me (In My Own Words)
When I was pregnant with my second child, I started having rapid heart beats. The doctor put me in a holter and captured an episode of 220 beats per minute. The episodes would last for 20 minutes at a time. So I delivered my daughter (healthy...she just graduated from college) three weeks early. Then I had a catheter ablation. It worked, but the doctor told me I had a "valve" problem and a hole in my heart, so I needed to regularly see a cardiologist.
I didn't. It wasn't until I was in my forties that I decided to go back to the cardiologist because my migraines with aura were really bad and I read that closing a hole in the heart may reduce migraines. But the cardiologists said I had an atrial septal defect and it really needed repair. So I had a septal occluder put in and my ASD repaired.
I've been good now and see my cardiologist yearly to check on my bicuspid aortic valve. He has moved my visits two every six months now. I have not been feeling well lately. Exercise is hard. I wake up coughing. Some nights I have to sleep sitting up. I have what I call thunder heart. I get dizzy. I'm afraid it's time to fix the valve, but should know more this month after my echo.
