My mitral valve prolapse was identified really early - I was about 11 and I was being evaluated as a part of a genetic study for genetic cardiomyopathy (not affected). After 40 years of having very little symptoms, I likely ruptured a mitral chord earlier this year and now have severe regurg since April. I am awaiting open heart surgery at University of Michigan. I know I am lucky to have such great care so close but this has been, like, a lot. The hope is for a repair, MAZE (also an history of paroxysmal a fib) and an appendage clip
