About Me (In My Own Words)
At 47, I recently experienced a series of concerning health issues. Initially, I had mild chest pain and a fever. Given that I had just received the COVID vaccine and my occupation as a healthcare worker, I first assumed it might be vaccine-related or that I had contracted COVID. Despite self-quarantining and testing negative for COVID thrice, my condition deteriorated. One morning, I felt a severe chest pain with a tearing sensation and breathing difficulty.
Upon visiting the doctor, an EKG revealed I was having an inferior wall MI. I was urgently admitted to the hospital and underwent a catheterization procedure, where two stents were placed in my Circumflex artery to address an occlusion. Additionally, a mitral murmur was detected, leading to a consultation with a cardiovascular surgeon.
It was then confirmed that I had ruptured my papillary muscle, necessitating an emergency mitral valve procedure. Unfortunately, a repair wasn’t feasible, so I received a mechanical valve replacement. I also underwent a bypass graft, and an atrial clip was placed in my left atrium.
After this emergency procedure and 11 days in the hospital, I’m now home. I’m on the mend, focusing on walking and healing.
