About Me (In My Own Words)
At 92 I'm having pump problems. Let's start at the current point and I will tell you what has already happened; and hope that some of you can help me navigate what is to come.
I understand that the heart is a complicated four-stage pump with valves between stages. In my case there were timing problems with the several stages and with the main outlet valve.
The timing problem is now largely corrected with medication and a three-wire pacemaker. The outlet valve, the Aortic Valve, has about five times the normal pressure drop because it does not open fully. This problem remains, and is the subject of my journal.
I'm considered high risk so we are talking about the TAVR procedure. The first step is an esophageal echocardiogram. It is now Friday evening and that first step is Monday at UPMC Shadyside Hospital. I'll have more to say on Tuesday. In the meanwhile, I would appreciate any advice or comment from anyone who has been down this path before.
