About Me (In My Own Words)
I was diagnosed with mitral valve prolapse in my 20’s and followed its status with annual echocardiograms. I have been a runner and now am a walker at age 62. In October of 2024, I experienced sudden onset of severe shortness of breath and was diagnosed with severe MV regurgitation. I had MV repair, MAZE procedure and removal of left atrial appendage with a sternotomy on 12/02/2024. I will be 4 weeks postop tomorrow 12/30. I am walking x15 minutes (1/2 mile) 3-4 xperday. I immediately get short of breath and must walk at a slow pace. My thighs and calves/ankles are swollen. I have slight incisional pain and my incision in healing well.
When will I be able to do activities and walk at a steady pace without feeling short of breath? When did you really feel back to normal with a return of your stamina?
