About Me (In My Own Words)
I had rheumatic fever which caused mitral regurgitation. In 2001 I had it repaired. It stared leaking again in 2004 but it was mild. I developed Afib in 2011, CHF in 2016. I’ve had 3 ablation for the Afib but it just won’t let me go. My last ablation in Oct of 2019 led to the discovery of my mitral valve needing to be replaced. I chose the bovine so if I need it replaced again they won’t have to crack my chest and no blood thinners but I’m still on them for Afib. The recovery was HARD! The worst part was waking up in the ICU and I felt like I couldn’t breathe and was in pain but couldn’t say anything because I was still intubated . So all I could do was cry and hyperventilate which they threatened to sedate me and I guess they did because I don’t remember being extubated. My family was there and my brother in-law has a funny story about the one tear running down my face. It’s funny to me now but in the moment I was scared and felt like I was being mistreated. Oh and when they removed the drains and the pacing wires OUCH 🥲. The rest of my recovery was typical for open heart surgery.
