Grace Mason Thanks for sharing pic of your wire Deb. It's interesting to see the size of it and the twist. I'm amazed I don't "feel" them all the time, though I do have occasional twinges that I imagine have something to do with my wires.
Hope you are feeling more comfortable soon...💐

Sher Follett Deb I am so glad I saw your note today. I have surgery next Thursday April 10th and I have a huge metal allergy so wondering about removal. The surgeons said they could be removed later if I have a problem with the metal. When I broke my ankle, All the rods were coming out of my ankle because my body was rejecting the metal. I have suspected I would get crazy glued back together but good to know someone that has had their metal removed. I hope speedy recovery for you now that you are on the mend without the wires now.

Susan Giesy I had a constant dull pain in my sternum and had my sternal wires removed as well. Much more pain after the procedure than I expected. When I reported this to the surgeon, I was shocked at the response as she was almost accusing me of wanting opiates. Pain gradually subsided and was much reduced after six weeks and I thought this was great and I could certainly live with this. After eight weeks, pain was completely gone and has never returned. Absolutely no regrets about having this done.

Going home full OHS Aortic valve and aortic root replacement- nothing could have prepared me for the intense pain of this surgery- it took some time for doctors to get the pain in control- still so many hoses, wires and tubes everywhere- I went home day 6 post op- moving slowly and no appetite. First night in the recliner. So thankful for skilled medical team

Thank goodness for the skilled medical teams, these individuals are very gifted and have a huge part of the recovery process. I can't thank my care team enough, I told them over and over, "I wouldn't be where I am today, if it weren't for you."
I am 28 days post op from mitral valve robotic surgery and the pain and chest tubes were excruciating at times, but things do get better. Make sure to take your pain meds and stay on top of them so you are not chasing the pain. Before you know it, things will get better when you least expect it. Let your loved ones help you and take in the support you receive. You got this! We are here for you if you have any questions or just want to vent. This site is such a blessing! Godspeed!
