Glad you liked the thanksgiving day picture. Hope you have finally reunited with your cat. Luna and shadow are both siberian huskies but Lunas coat color is more conventional . Shadow being black is much more rare. We found him in north carolina at a breeder who specialized in long coated black versions. It was a long drive to pick him up but worth it. We had a funny experience walking both dogs on thanksgiving. A passerby asked his breed and when i told him he said no its not. After a little back and forth it got a little testy and i had to finally say i think i know what my own dog breed is and we kept going.

You have been through so much, warrior. I will light a candle for you tomorrow. You are in good hands. 🙏. I had the same surgery as you last October, i am rejoicing today. I also had cancer (breast) in 2019 and had radiation. I wonder if it affected my valve. I know 2 people who had radiation and had valve replacements. Keep us posted 💕
Margaret Fielden Prayers for a very successful surgery and a good recovery.

Trygve, I just finished reading your story and you are a warrior - courageous, brave, and a fighter! I am scheduled for ohs on September 12th, due to radiation therapy I had for Hodkin’s disease in 1984. I am also having my surgery at Mt. Sinai hospital with Dr. Adams and will be happy to share my journey.

Trygve HarrisHi
Lori! Thanks! I am also so interested in your situation. It's rare, I
think, for radiation induced valve disease? I get the feeling it is. And
you are having replacement, like me. Well, yes, I'm in a unique
position as I've already done through this, in UAE. First, in my
opinion, it sounds gnarlier that it was, as a lived experience. I don't
remember any pain, even taking into the account the excellent
drugs. I had no problem going off them after a few days, and was walking
around pretty easily, considering. What I'm saying is that it was a
much easier recovery than I had anticipated. And I immediately felt
better, like I wasn't on the brink anymore, and was healing. It felt
palpable. Remember the surgeries are so normal for these guys and I think Dr Adams is the perfect choice for both of us. Please keep us up to date on whats happening.

Lori Risboskin Hi Trygve and thank you for sharing your thoughts on recovery. It is comforting to know that it was easier than you expected. I’m now less than 4 weeks out from surgery and spending as much time with my family as possible. I am a homebody and also a little anxious about NYC. It is also insanely expensive! My family will be staying at a hotel during my hospital stay and I am grateful that they will be with me. Unfortunately, damage from the amount of radiation therapy I received is common. It was significant and today I find it frightening and semi-barbaric. That said, my cardiac condition has been monitored closely for a long time and it’s now time to have it taken care of. I’m looking forward to having this behind me and will share my Mount Sinai journey along the way.

Trygve Harris Hi Lori I just arrived back in Dubai--I need to make some arrangements here before I go back to NYC. I think NYC is a great place to be, especially as your family will be there with you. I don't even know how much chest radiation I received. I was 22. But for some reason, no one ever monitored my heart; until it was a horror/emergency. I'll always be grateful to the cardiologist and oncologist here in Dubai for spotting it. And now I have so much confidence in Dr Adams and Mt Sinai.

Trygve,
Hi, I am so sorry you have to go through all this. I remember your story because your first valve surgery was one day before mine. I also had uterine cancer, but it was 6 months before the first hv surgery. The mitral valve repair surgery didn't last - broke and I had severe regurgitation again. Second open heart surgery was 7 weeks ago today. I had a re-repair of the mitral valve, this time I went to Cleveland Clinic/Cleveland, and had Dr. Gillanov. I only share my story here to say "You can do this!" I kept saying to myself "If I did this before, I can do it again". Wishing you the best on your reoperation.
Remember, You can do this-again!

Trygve Harris Hi Marcia. How are you feeling now? How was your second surgery? What was your cancer treatment? I wonder if maybe the chemo or the immuno-therapy might have contributed. I did 7 rounds of Keytruda/Pembrolizamab. It can't possibly be well studied. You had a repair and then another repair? I'm having another replacement--I think bovine this time. It's really a lot. But thank you for your encouragement.

Marcia Snyder I had surgery (hysterectomy) and then brachytherapy (a radiation therapy). My cancer was caught early enough that it hadn't spread, and they decided I didn't need chemo or immunotherapy, so I was very fortunate. Yes, I had a Mitral valve repair, which didn't last - and no one is willing to say why, but I ended up with severe regurgitation again. This time I decided I wanted someone who specialized in re-repairs. I researched several doctors, and Cleveland Clinic could get me in before the other places I looked at - and I felt bad enough I wanted the surgery quickly! I'm feeling good, but finding the cardiac rehab is tougher than the first time. I'm guessing that's because I'm not in as good a condition as the first time - I felt so lacking in energy and fatigued and short of breath, which I thought was just the A-fib and atrial flutter, cardioversions and ablations, but was probably from the severe regurgitation, which all lasted for 6 months before I got the diagnosis of the valve being broken again. Anyway, good luck with your second ohs, and yes, you will feel better after this surgery! I'm much older than you (69), so if I can do this, you can too!

Trygve Harris Thanks Marcia. I'm doing what I can to be in shape for the surgery--I'm about 30 lbs lighter, maybe more, and doing pilates/yoga. The first one I was just a mess. Both of mine are replacements. Not possible to repair. After a point it all starts to blend in together. Cleveland Clinic is stellar. I always felt (and looked) young for my age, but now I feel like Indiana Jones at the beginning of the 3rd movie, getting beaten up on the deck of the ship in the storm off the Portuguese coast while holding on to the cross of Coronado.

Hi Trygve, you have been in a worldwind of events. Not many of us had pulmonary valve surgery, so that could be a reason why our stories vary a bit from yours. . Either way, the heart heals itself well. You will get there. And while it is not exponential healing, it is fast. Each day makes a huge difference, so know that. The other diagnosis is crappy news. The upside is it was caught, so the heart surgery was life saving in more ways that one. I will constantly remind myself to include you in my prayer at night.

Trygve Harris Hi Deena Thanks for your kind note! I didn't have pulmonary valve surgery either--it's just not as fast healing as some of these "home in 4 days" and the reason seems to be that the hypertension has to regulate--i don't know the medical terms. It's cool. I prefer it to another area of surgery. But now with the valve fixed and my heart working (!) the pressure is subsiding but after so many years of creating a high pressure backup in the system, the left ventricle is stretched out and not as supple and the lungs have been filled with fluid for literally years, to one extent or another. They have helped drain me to a large extent--19 kg water- but it will take time to come to stasis again. And yes, I agree, the cancer was caught by the doctors I was seeking help from for heart, but it's still annoying
Lovely to hear your good news .
Make the most of every day .
Every day is a gift
