Tom Hahn Thanks for the prayers Susan! This is Friday, my surgery was Tuesday. I had a successful minimally-invasive Mitral Valve repair at Duke by Dr Glower. Recovery is progressing well. I expect to leave the hospital Sunday.

Nancy D I am well- graduated from cardiac rehab this Monday and am now getting my steps around the neighborhood. I have a nearly 4 month echocardiogram and visit after with the cardiologist tomorrow, I hope he tells me he will see me in a year!
Glad you are doing well!!! Time goes by quickly, don't you think? Continue to take good care of you!!

Tom Hahn Thanks all for the kind posts. It touches me to have complete strangers connect with me, pray for me and follow me. I'm heading to surgery in 6 hours and will look forward to a time when I can get back in here and report back. I'm a calm guy and keeping my anxious and negative feelings in check so far. Having a very good experience at Duke so far, don't expect any changes. All for now. Tom

Good Morning to your Tom. Your day is almost here and I want to tell you that I hope you have recently found that courage you know that is in you to move forward and get yourself home to have a healthy healing recovery. Prayers and Universal wishes for a safe and smooth surgery are flowing from the hearts of many people including this community for you and those you love! I think you will be surprised that you are in and out of surgery and in the greatest of hands. You will be watched over and really pleased at how well the people connected to your health "Team" are on top and in tune with your every need. My wish for you is to think that it will surprise you how the worst of this is the "WAITING". You will be home in recovery before you know it! Take care and remember you have a lot of people in this community who will be waiting to hear and share your continued journey-Our Hearts are with you!

Tom Hahn Thanks for the words of encouragement. I've got this but will need to work on my patience during recovery. I live in the ski areas of Colorado and have always been active. Minimally invasive surgery was my goal with a surgeon who does a lot of them. Both of these Drs made my short list. Hope you are recovering very quickly!

I have recovered quickly , not quite as quickly as Dr. Gillinov had indicated some patients (4 weeks and back to work). I would encourage going through the cardio rehab which allowed me to be monitored, it bolsters your confidence with regard to activity and general exercise.

I suspect you will be on the slopes before you know it. My family and I go to Salt Lake every year for Spring so I can empathize with not missing the ski season.

It sounds like you are already off in the right direction with your picking a place that will be giving you confidence and the fact it will be near family will be a great advantage to you and your wife for your surgery and beginning recovery time. You will find many people on this sight who will have shared experiences and you can't find a nicer group of people to add support and comfort along with information than here in this community.
