Hi Sherry, Praying for your wellness, and wanted to share something with you that I have started to make a routine and my own life: Every time I leave a doctor's appointment, I ask for a copy of my records for that day's visit, if not available, then at the soonest next convenience. I have found more information in my records than what has been verbalized. I don't think there is any ill intention on the doctors part, but I have found this method to be effective in knowing what's going on. Hope this helps, GOD Bless

Hey Sherry, I was praying about you the other day. Hope you're up and about a little bit, each day you'll be able to do more and go farther. make sure you stand up straight, like the Queen of the Universe! Hi Sherry - I just joined this wonderful support community a couple days ago. It was a lifeline to me. Your journal and the subsequent posts written to you were one of the reasons I was encouraged. I am at 4 weeks recovering from Mitral Valve Repair. Riding the recovery roller coaster that Jeanette Davidson talks about and am grateful for the encouragement offered and the perspective to recognize the seeming baby steps of recovery. You have been in my thoughts and prayers. You are a very special person and I believe along with you that God will see you thru your surgery and recovery . Thank you Sherry for writing to me! I remember when I first joined the site and someone embraced me with open arms and it really helped me through it. I can be that for you. We have a lot in common and have both been through a lot. I have to be honest if I didn't surrender and give it to God I don't think I would have done as well as I did. I know it's really scary, but I just was saying to my husband last night that all in all it was better-than-expected . There are some tough days. The teams are so well-trained and they will take such good care of you. I feel confident in that. Keep reaching out to me I will continue to encourage and inspire you . Stay strong ! Hi Sherry, welcome to HVS. I was scared, too, when I got my diagnosis. I waited for surgery more than 10 years. I had my aortic valve replaced with an On-X mechanical valve in March 2014. I was worried I would hear it ticking all the time - and I only hear it about half the time. It's not distracting or nerve-wracking. I was a little worried about the warfarin also, but in all the reading I've done I've decided to let the clinic nurse worry about the numbers, and I'll just eat and exercise consistently. I went through about a month-long internal debate about what kind of valve to choose. my surgeon recommended mechanical (because of my age - he says tissue valves last longer in older patients)), and my cardiologist recommended tissue (because of warfarin - he didn't want me to limit my activities). Here's some pre-op advice for you. Unless you have someone that lives in your house that is a good cook, you should make about 2 weeks worth of comfort food meals for your freezer. And practice standing & sitting without using your arms for support. After you get home, you won't be able to use your arms for much for probably about 2 weeks. (I was afraid I was going to need help in the bathroom, but I didn't. I just moved real real REAL slow!). Read some journals - Clare & I went through surgery around the same time.
