Congratulations on the 2 year mark. I had mine this past March. Did you ever have the sternal wires removed? The clamping system that some hospitals use should be the norm for all of the surgeries. Have a great summer.

Hi Sean,
I\'m so happy to hear your doing so well. I\'ve been doing things that hadn\'t done prior to surgery, and its wonderful. Back to riding my motorcycle again, and it feels wonderful to be back in the saddle once again.
As far as the wires go, they snipped mine off at the surface of the skin and they sucked back inside of me. Not aware of any clamps left behind. I\'m sure it just something minor tho. Wish you all the best, from one neighbor from Levittown to another.

As far as getting you and Jacki through this the same goes out to you for getting me through this as well. If it is any consolation my BP was exactly the same earlier this week and the INR was 5.7...yeah you read that right. Apparently that nasty does of nafcillin finally left my system. Anyways it\'s back to normal after two days off the warfarin and a much reduced dose.
So here\'s to you and making it through this and a return back to a normal life. Again thanks for your input back in August and September.

Hi Sean....Hope all is well with you. I can
finally drive....It was really rough for awhile
and I felt awful, but now it seems like I have
turned the corner. The chest infection lasted
quite awhile, the antibiotic\'s didn\'t seem to do the trick. Virginia--the nurse practitioner-had me start warm compresses on my incision
twice a day for 20 minutes, that really helped. I lost 20 pounds since my surgery....I felt so sick it just came off...
My incision is still sore-how about yours???
I still get breathless, especially going up
steps or walking fast...I wonder if it\'s the
A-fib???? I never did get to see Dr B....Tell
me how you are doing.....
I started walking and I\'m up to 2 miles a day. I leave for Hilton Head SC in 2 weeks.
My friend has a place there, I will join her then come home with her at the end of the month. We have great fun playing bridge, walking the beach, shopping and doing what we
want.Give my regards to Jacki and your Mom.

Sean & Jacki!
Many congrats on your excellent progress! It\'s beyond description when your medical appointments taper off some. Resuming driving and starting rehab is huge. And to hold your boy again--indescribable! I had the same thing with grandbabies. Keep it up, pal!
Regarding chest discomfort/tightness/pain: it sounds like you\'re describing pretty normal stuff. I was surprised that the sensations could be anywhere in the upper body, chest, and shoulders. Then, again, have you thought about them sawing your sternum and pulling your upper body apart? No wonder we feel those things. And then, as the muscle endings begin to be active again, that will feel stretchy and pull. All normal as you recover.
You\'re doing awesome!

Hi Sean
Sounds like you are doing great I noticed you had had been cont to experience soreness a few days ago. I am 5 wks post mitral valve replacement and still having signifcant L sided all over, rib pain, shoulder, L arm numbness. Surgeon has explained that due to this being my 3rd sternotomy and having scar tissue and opening with retracter further, longer and intubated for 6 hrs that he was afraid I would be having cont nerve and muscle issues. I have tried massage, heat night and day, increased activity of upper extremity, decrease on some days of upper extremity to no avail. Cardiologist and surgeon recommmending anesthesiology referral as cont with Motrin with Coumadin not such a good idea long term. I still am on pain meds and do not want to cont so I have relinquished to some further assistance, as I do not want to impede my rehabilitation and return to a productive life. Since you have not mentioned any longer any pain I hope yours is resolved, if so any advise?
Take care
