Hi Samantha. I canβt speak for the cardio version, not sure what that is but I did have a TEE test and heart cath done February 2nd. If they do your TEE the same as mine, for me the worst part was when they spray a stream of numbing agent in the back of your throat. If youβve ever had a tooth filled and had your gums numbed, the stuff they put on the q-tip to first numb your gum before the shot, I believe is the same stuff they spray in your throat. Thatβs what it tasted like to me. They did that twice and I felt like I was having an allergic reaction as if my throat had swollen shut. I kept trying to swallow. They kept assuring me everything was fine and that was normal but I couldnβt get past that feeling so I was kind of panicking. The doctor came in and talked to me and said maybe weβd better go ahead and get started. They of course will put you to sleep. You wonβt remember anything after that. I do remember telling the nurse that put me to sleep how nice she was to me. Then I woke up in recovery then went for my cath. You will have a sore throat for several days afterwards but I was able to eat, drink and talk so itβs not too awful bad. It was just the left side of my throat. Thatβs the side they had me lying on. Donβt know if that had anything to do with it or not. Hope this gives you some comfort. None of this heart stuff is any fun! Best of luck with everything!

Hi Samantha,
It looks like we're facing the unknown but with a positive attitude and God's enabling, we'll make it through with these good doctors and a lot of patience on our parts. I read today my old posts from 10 years ago so I remember better what I experienced. I'll be praying for you!
nicholas waring, kingstion-upon-thames, greater london posted a note for Samantha that says:

Hi Samantha, Read your story. The waiting game is really the hardest part of it all.Β You just never know what will be said and you can let your mind wonder in all crazy and sane directions. That's normal, been there, done that.Β So, if I may, while you are waiting, just let yourself know that WHATEVER the test results show and the cardiologist recommends, heart procedures and tests have advanced amazingly. You have already proven yourself a heart warrior by successfully living through three heart tumors and you will do it again. I am not just saying this to make you feel better; the advancement of the science has been that great. So, here's to thinking of you and sending you positive vibes while you are in the wait game.Β We are HVS are here to support you in all and any ways.

Samantha McClain Thank you for the support & your right the waiting game does suck. Having lived with this my whole life and been in waiting game that whole time for them to say itβs finally time for this valve to be replaced itβs like waiting for a pot of water to boil π Funny you should say about the advancements my child cardiologist has always said things are always changing and the longer you can wait the better.

Louise Moore Lovely Samantha, you will breeze right through the TEE and Cardioversion, a very short procedure and you'll be out of AFIB ππΌ. If you're getting anxious about the possibility of it being time for a valve replacement - I'll just suggest listening to/ practicing "guided imagery." It helped me very much and made me feel grounded, grounded to myself and ready to accept and welcome the uber experienced and professional team that would do my OHS. We are a family here ( thanks, Adam! ) and we're here every step of the way and for the long haul. I can't help but think that maybe soon, if surgery is the answer, that you'll be released from the worry you've had since birth - what a new day that would be for you!! π(I recently had my one year anniversary of Mitral valve replacement and Tricuspid repair. ) I feel great and it's great peace of mind to know my heart is corrected, renewed and ready to carry on! We're here for you.

How has your recovery been?
No talk of surgery yet, just have to get out of this AFIB first. Not looking forward to the TEE procedure and Cardioversion but Iβm hopeful it will not be as bad as I think π€π½

My recovery has been good, there has been some setbacks here and there, but you adjust, and work thru them and you come out on the other side. Very happy with my decision to do the Ross procedure.
