Hi Ruth, I have been thinking about you and hope your recovery is in full swing and you are feeling better every day. Hopefully at this point you are seeing your new life ahead feeling great and ready to get back to it !! I wish you a beautiful Thanksgiving, which I think we all look at with even more "THANKS" than we did before our heart journeys. I still look forward to maybe meeting one day since we are in the same state. We will be in Tucson with my 92 year old Mom for Thanksgiving. From you. My recovery is going good. I still get tired when I do what I consider not much. I totally agree about how much more thankful we are. I'm so thankful the surgery is behind us. I trust you will have a wonderful Thanksgiving with your mother. That is a huge blessing in itself. My family are all gathering at my sisters house in Vail. I would love to meet you soon. I'm back home but my doctors are all in the Tucson area so will be going there often. May you have a blessed Thanksgiving. Ruth

Ruth Valenzuela Hi Joan, I don't know if my heart beat sounds louder than before but I don't have the heart murmur anymore. Yeah, I went into afib while still in the hospital and had a few episodes recovering here at home. My cardiologist just upped my metropol because my blood pressure is still running high in addition to a high heart rate. He believes by January it should all calm down and he'll be able to wean me off 3 of the meds. Overall I'm feeling good and almost feel like I can return to work but my cardiologist wants me to wait until Jan. If you would like to email me, it's widowruth@hotmail.com.

Hi Ruth, I saw your note to Alma about wanting to sleep and being too tired to go to the movies. Resting and taking care of yourself is your job right now :-). That's all I did in June, July and August and my surgery was on May 20th. I started a weekly movie trip with a friend in late July. The first outing almost wiped me out. Be patient with your body. It has a lot of healing still to do. I use to live in Tucson, AZ, this is a nice time of the year. Hope you can get out for your daily walks, 20-30 min twice a day ;-). Best wishes for continued success in your recovery.

I went with my daughter to buy groceries right now and walked quite a bit in the store. Of course, she handled all the heavy items. Tucson is really nice at this time. I love it. Enrique K Hey Ruth, doing better each day. I have also had good and bad days but better days are coming for sure. I am 2 1/2 weeks post op and don't take any pain medications, walked 20 minutes in the morning and never got winded once. Yes we need to be patient. Take Care!

I have a hard time being patient but I really don't have any choice. I want to do more like drive and go places. Sitting in the house is driving me bonkers but I am so thankful to God for bring me through. You keep on keeping on! Love to hear how others are doing good.

No it is never just simple. Not sure about the carotid study but I know it is something they watch closely 1) as we age and 2) especially with heart patients. All in all hopefully a small matter. I've had that ultrasound once or twice. Probably checking all vessels to be sure everything is clear. Enjoy your weekend; next week will be here soon enough.

Glad your day is done. Now you can try to relax for a few days. Great that you met your staff before the surgery. That doesn't happen that I know of. And wonderful that you had such good feedback about the surgeon. Try not to worry too much about the intubation tube. My experience was that as soon as I was about 3/4 awake, pretty groggy, and I could follow basic direction they were able to pull the tube. I knew the tube was still in but still sedated enough that it was not uncomfortable or very scary. It was done quickly and my recollection of it is pretty faint. I am praying each day for your peace and God's guiding hand in your surgery and recovery. Looking forward to news that you are on the other side of this part of your journey next week.

Ruth Valenzuela I was so glad it was done too, although last night I checked my voicemail and there was a message that stated there was a change in my scheduled surgery and that the surgeon wants to set me up for a test of the carotid. I'm not too sure what that is all about . I'm wondering after he received my ct scan results if something indicates I need this test. I tried calling his office and of course, CLOSED. I'll know more Monday. Holy Macaron! Thought all the tests were done...

Hi again. I'm glad your appt went well and you are comfortable with the surgeon. I'm sure it is a shock that he wants to go to surgery so fast but if he feels that strongly perhaps it means it is time. Also less time for you to fret about it. Will you be staying there until the surgery or will you go home? Would it be too invasive to ask where you live? Since we are in the same state it would be nice to meet sometime. You are in my prayers every day. Looking forward to hear what they find on Friday.

Ruth Valenzuela I am home now in Sierra Vista. It is only about an hour and 15 minute drive to Tucson and I'll be going back for my ct scan on Friday, then returning back home to head out again on Sunday to stay with my daughter in Tucson. She will be taking me to the hospital on surgery day. She has already gotten leave to help me after surgery too. She is a nurse so I feel comfortable that she'll be watching me like a hawk. I'm so blessed! I would love to meet up with one day. Thanks so much for the prayers. They mean everything to me. I'll keep you updated about Friday's findings.

I am very familiar with Tucson as I graduated from High School there and attended U of A, though I am not very familiar with the Pima Heart facility. Ruth Valenzuela Hi Sherry,
I've heard of Glendale but have never been there. I have been in Arizona all my life so I love it here. My appointment went well. I felt very comfortable with the surgeon and he answered all my questions. The next thing he told me he wanted to schedule me for surgery this coming Tuesday and I was taken back a bit. My daughter and a friend were in the room with me and after much discussion with the surgeon, I decided to go ahead with it. He told me if I was his mother, daughter, etc, I'd be in the operating room at this moment. So Tuesday it is. I'll have a CT Scan on Friday morning because he said he will get a clearer picture of my aneurysm and that he might not have to touch it. I told him if I was going to have to go back in a year later, to please do something and take care of it. So I'll know more on Friday. Thank you for your prayers and I would like you to really pray hard now.

Hi Ruth, Glad to hear that your cardiac cath showed clear vessels. That is always one hurdle done. I know you are understandably nervous and I can only tell you that your positive thinking and trust in the Lord to guard your life and your surgeon's hands and skill will carry you through. You are not in this alone; we are all praying for you and God will be looking over you. I cannot speak to the aortic root but that also is in God's Grace as he watches over you and your surgical team. I am glad to read your updates and very glad to be able to offer you encouragement and support. It is amazing that I am already 2 years past my AVR and life is precious. I pray for your peace going forward.

Hi Ruth, I had two heart caths ( angiogram) prior to my AVR. While it certainly can be scary, the procedure has been around a long time and has a lot of experience for doctors. I can tell you that in my experience the procedure itself is not uncomfortable at all, however the being still for a long time afterward is a bit difficult to do. My guess would be that if your cardiologist feels the need to do it bilaterally perhaps there are other vessels he wants to check as well. I'm pretty sure that an angiogram is standard before heart surgery to be sure all is well with the vessels but it is also a good test for checking for other possible issues. I know this is all frightening and nerve wracking, but try to trust the experience and skill of your doctors. With each step along the journey I was able to hand it all to the Lord and trusted Him to carry me through, I know He will do that for you.

I'm certainly trusting the Lord and He knows in spite of doing that, we humans still stress over things. ha ha It's so comforting to hear from others that have gone through the same procedure and to hear how well it went for them, helps tremendously. I'm actually not worried at the moment but if my cardiologist finds something that will require OHS really soon, I'll totally freak out! In God We Trust!

Hi Ruth, I am so sorry to hear you have another potentially threatening issue to deal with. So glad to hear your heart issue has remained moderate so so you can use what energy you do have to deal with this new symptom. You are in my prayers, hoping that it turns out to be manageable and not so serious as it is sounding. I know that God will be with you whatever comes so lean on His strength. Now you must take care of yourself and do what is necessary to get through this current "storm". You will not be alone.

Hi Ruth, I am also in waiting mode I have moderate aortic stenosis. this waiting is really getting to me, I usually can find ways in and out of situations but now I must come to grips this is something that I have to face. I do have the tiredness and after climbing stairs I get out of breath .but my dr said still not ready but getting there. my next echo is nov 7 then I will see him . good to hear im not alone keep in touch. and I too have a granddaughter 8 yrs old and three sons all grown up. good luck. I don't have any symptoms as of yet but I know that is not an indicator that things are not progressing downhill. I have my next echo on 5 Jan. Let me know what your next echo reveals. I am Rosemary Hopper. I have been following you for quite awhile. But due to my own problems ,lost tract of how you are at this time. So glad to find you on my PC today. Have you had surgery yet ?I started all this in May. And after major choices ,moving to a state where they have doctors who can do my proceeder (they have to go in through the groin. Due to my body being frail and my age 78. I am now scheduled for Oct. 31,2014 . don't know about you but, I am getting weaker all the time. can use all the encouragement can get.

Ruth Valenzuela Hi Rosemary: No. I have not had surgery yet. I'm still in the wait and see mode. I go for another echo on 5 Jan and I'll know more then. My valve is progressively getting worse but overall I feel decent. I'm sad to hear you are getting weaker but it's so good to read how strong they got after their surgeries. I'm sure you will feel amazing afterwards. I'll be praying for you as will many others. There is much power in prayer. Since they are going in through your groin area, are you having the TAVR procedure. I've read success stories with that procedure and I think I'd like to have it that way also. Is your husband still with you. I would like to know if you have loved ones that will be by your side.

Same with me need my heart valve replaced , I will change Dr. Don't have the symptoms yet.I had to have surgery on my leg he told me not to have it or I will have heart events, he said to fix the heart valve first . I had the surgery anyway, and was fine. My age will be 68, this is a surgery I am very scared of, every one outcome is not the same. This Dr. Was very blunt he said your valve is like a water hose will kink one of them days.well I will have my echo in October . And will see another doctor and go from there .my whole outlook on everything changed
