Best wishes for a speedy recovery! I had a very similar diagnosis and surgery 14 months ago. Be patient but persistent with your rehab and you'll be good as new in a few months.

Good luck to you, you will be ok, I had same problem all my life from age 9, finally decided to
have it fixed in 2015 at age76, it was a fast surgery at Northwestern. By a great surgeon Dr. Patrick
McCarthy, who is also my hero. I of course will be praying for you tonight.

Best of luck to you. I also had severe mitral valve regurgitation. I'm 41 years old. My surgery was 4 months ago. I'm amazed at how much better I feel, and of course beyond blessed for the doctor who found my murmur and for the surgeon and cardiologist who helped me. You'll do amazing, take your recovery one day at a time and focus on one new thing you're able to do each day. Take care and best wishes.

Hi Peter, I trust your surgery went well today. I had my mitral valve repaired and 4 bypasses done in November at Hartford Hospital. I then caught covid about 10 days post surgery so I was pretty sick for the month of December. With the help of some good home visits from nurses, physical and occupational therapists and of course my wonderful wife, I came through it. I am now in cardio rehab and getting my strength and stamina back.

Wishing you the best recovery.
I had the same surgery, in my late 40s. The recovery went very well. Setting small goals, almost daily, helped. I did a gentle swim competition 8 weeks later.

Peter- hope your surgery went well today. I had mitral valve repair back in December. The surgery went well but I had some rhythm issues as well that I’m still dealing with. Hope to read that you’re on the mend soon! - John

Today you are having your valve repair,,, you are in my thoughts today..
I found out I had a “ moderate” regurgitation. They will have me do an echocardiogram yearly to see when/ if it’s time to repair. I’m 66 so I think I’d rather do it sooner than later! So now I am on blood pressure meds. We shall see what happens . Waiting to see your impressions of the surgery , you will do great I’m sure!

I just had the same surgery on October 6. No pain from the incision. Problem after surgery is a paralyzed diaphragm. No one ever mentioned that. Took three doctor visits to find out what it was. Should heal on it's own. Best of luck. You will do great!
