Dear Peter,
Good luck to you, you will be ok, I had same problem all my life from age 9, finally decided to
have it fixed in 2015 at age76, it was a fast surgery at Northwestern. By a great surgeon Dr. Patrick

Best of luck to you. I also had severe mitral valve regurgitation. I'm 41 years old. My surgery was 4 months ago. I'm amazed at how much better I feel, and of course beyond blessed for the doctor who found my murmur and for the surgeon and cardiologist who helped me. You'll do amazing, take your recovery one day at a time and focus on one new thing you're able to do each day. Take care and best wishes.

Hi Peter, I trust your surgery went well today. I had my mitral valve repaired and 4 bypasses done in November at Hartford Hospital. I then caught covid about 10 days post surgery so I was pretty sick for the month of December. With the help of some good home visits from nurses, physical and occupational therapists and of course my wonderful wife, I came through it. I am now in cardio rehab and getting my strength and stamina back.
Wishing you the best recovery.

I found out I had a “ moderate” regurgitation. They will have me do an echocardiogram yearly to see when/ if it’s time to repair. I’m 66 so I think I’d rather do it sooner than later! So now I am on blood pressure meds. We shall see what happens . Waiting to see your impressions of the surgery , you will do great I’m sure!

Peter Luxenberger Thanks for all the encouragement this site has provided from it's members. To Adam for this great website with all the interview's it has helped a lot only wish that I found it sooner. I can't believe surgery is only 2 days away. I am a little anxious not because of the surgery just wanting to get it done. I am very comfortable with the surgical team at UCLA, it will be nice to get on the road to recovery getting back to a normal life. So now I am in the hands of Dr. Shimon and his surgical team, along with my Father in heaven and a son Jesus.

Joseph Heinzmann Peter,
Two days away is a great feeling because it's time to start feeling better. I got some advice that worked for me on the day before surgery so I'll pass it along. Make sure you eat and eat well. Have breakfast and eat protein. Eat a light lunch so you can have an earlier dinner and not feel weighed down when you decide to go to sleep. I had pasta, chicken, and broccoli with olive oil for dinner the night before. Whatever you decide to eat, make it something you like and look forward to eating. We need strength before surgery and proper nutrition is essential.
When you get to the hospital, stroll on the journey to the OR. No rushing anywhere. Look at the people helping you and smile. They will smile back.
When you wake up, you're going to have all the help you need. Until then, know that many of us here will pray for you and that we all have confidence that things will be great.
Oh, and don't forget, hug your heart pillow when you cough. It only helps a little, but it helps.
God bless you and your surgical team. I look forward to hearing how it goes and that you are home and recovering soon!
