I will be thinking of you. I had a bicuspid aortic valve which turned too severe aortic stenosis. I had my valve replaced 10 weeks ago, I was the most nervous patient ever, I'd cry, cry and cry. To cut along story short... I have never felt better I'm still recovering but can do so much more than I could when I was sick. You are in my thoughts xx

Jennifer McConnell Did you feel increasingly tired as the stenosis got worse? At what point did you decide to have it replaced? My 17 year old daughter has a stenotic bicuspid valve. She had a previous surgery for SVAS when she was 9. She feels more tired over time, but our dr said actually her pressure gradient is less than it has been over the past 3 years.

I too was born with bicuspid aortic valve and have stenosis and was recently told that there has been a change since last years echo. I have always known that one day I would have to have surgery, but thought it wouldn't happen until I turned 60 per 70? Looks like it may be sooner than that? Doing some research to check options. I live in Oregon and am trying to see who would be the best surgeon for my case. I wish you the very best in your surgery. Will keep you in my prayers.
Sylvia Woolworth posted a note for Nancy that says:

Hi Nancy, In preparation for surgery, please read Adam's book. I found it extremely helpful. Next, get yourself in the best possible shape. (walk, watch your diet, water exercise if that is your thing, learn about meditation, learn forms of relaxation) All these things will benefit you after surgery. I had my aortic valve replaced at 73 and I am now going on 81. I did not have a lift chair, I just went to bed with my heart pillow hugged to my chest, and rolled out of bed hugging my heart pillow. I also used my heart pillow later when I was driving, behind my seat belt. The best to you in the coming months.
Janet Dunavin Glad to know you did ok without the lift chair!

Had my second open heart surgery in just over 2 years last year. My 1st was sn aortic valve replacement in 2/2013. 2nd was CABG for 90+% blockage in 3/2015.I did not have a lift chair the first time. The second time I knew it was a necessity. It was well worth it and very well used.
To this day I use it from time to time when I have insomnia issues. Also my grandsons love it!
Continued good wishes to you as you continue on your journey.

I'm sorry to hear of your need for a second open heart procedure. Question: why didn't they do the CABG procedure during the first surgery? Surely yo had significant blockage then. It sounds like you first surgeon overlooked this.

I got one from a friend who bought it from Raymar/Flannagan for his mitral valve surgery. It was a big help but I'm too used to it now. It's in CT and looking for a new home to anyone who will come pick it up!
Nancy Schnarr Thanks for the advice Randy, I'd consider yours but CT is a bit too far to go!

Hello Nancy, Just saw a post from you. I too am in Canada. I live in Alberta. I have severe aortic stenosis and regurgitation. I have known for ten years that I will need surgery but after seeing my cardiologist for my regular check ups, i was told this past dec, that I need my surgery this year.
I too do not have an exact date yet but now finally have some tests scheduled for June. The waiting is the hardest part. I bought Adams book and have done as much research as possible so myself and my family are as prepared as we can be. Of course the Canadian Medical system works differently than in the states and I have found that we Canadians don't have as much control as to when and who operates. Good luck with everything and if you want to chat about anything, just let me know.

Nancy Schnarr Hi Shannon, thanks for your note! I've known since I was a teenager that I would need this eventually, so I guess I had a good 15 year run since I'm 30 now! Since I just found out I'm starting the research process and have ordered some books online. Did you find Adam's book helpful?
The one thing that I'm stressed about at the moment is the time off because my job doesn't have short term disability benefits so it looks like I'll need to go on EI instead for a couple of months. It'll be a tight few months financially, which adds to the stress of the whole thing! I live alone as well so that doesn't help things, but my family and friends are great so I'm not worried about getting enough help in the weeks and months after.
I think I've come to a calm place about the whole thing for now, that might change once I have a date!

I think some of us north of the border need to write a canadian version. i have a Pulmonary stress test scheduled for mid june....which has been a long time coming. I am hoping there are most answers than questions following that.
