I'm from NSW :)
My Surgeon is very keen to operate on me before my condition gets any worse! Especially considering my persistent symptoms and current state of good health otherwise. When I had fairly mild regurgitation of my mitral valve my Cardiologist only wanted to monitor it and wait, however when my stress tests had poor results and every other avenue was explored (blood test for iron-thinking that may be causing my symptoms which turned out not the case), that's when action was taken. This might be a good question to ask your Surgeon+Cardiologist.

I have my surgery in Sydney, where are you two having yours? Make sure you get yours checked out and even if you need more than one opinion, to improve your heart and your quality of life. I found confidence in my choice of Surgeon when my Cardiologist said "If my Daughter had your heart condition, this is who I would send her to without a doubt".
