Hi Jennifer. So sorry about your rib. OHS certainly takes patience. Just when things seem like we are making progress, some odd complication pops up. At 73 I was struggling with fatigue for years before surgery. It went well for being so out of condition. Surgery was Nov 1, so we are pretty close in recovery time. Just as I thought I was improving in rehab, I became fatigued again, foggy headed, moody and confused. After blood test and urinalysis, Dr. said I had a UTI. I guess people over 60 can have symptoms similar to dementia instead of pain and other usual signs. You have the odd "rib poke" and I just missed being locked up with dementia ! Hope we both have had our last road bump on this journey. Take care and feel better soon.

Jennifer McInerney Thank you for your note Patricia. I also had a UTI after surgery. I had the fever, chills etc. It was most unpleasant. Glad you recovered from it . Must have been scary. Recovery takes patience, courage, discipline, faith, support and most of all, a sense of humour. Forward and onward my fellow warrior! We can do this!

Thanks for your reply Jennifer. My insomnia seem to get really bad the past few years and I always blamed it on my noisy neighbors. Although they were really bad and the new ones keep rock star hours I have this tiny hope that after surgery/recovery I will go back to sleeping deeper. I think there is a connection, but it hasn't been studied.

Hi Jennifer, yes, I agree that now you have a different outlook on a lot of things--don't sweat the small stuff. And, at times, you will feel as if everything is so surreal. Your experience will seem like a dream in another life, on another planet. Funny how the human brain works. I work for the Mount Sinai Health System in NY as a Greek translator (I am a teacher by profession). I told the nurses and doctors in the hospital that my dad passed away at 43 from coronary artery stenosis. I was an infant. They all told me that today they would have saved him. It broke my heart.

Jennifer McInerney Thank you so much for your note Fay. It truly is wonderful to have it behind me. I have a new appreciation for the little things, like naps, walking down my driveway, getting dressed. It just seems so amazing to me that such a serious surgery has taken place, my lifelong issue is fixed and now I’m recovering. Hope everything is going well for you too

Hi Jennifer, I am so happy you are home and on your way to full recovery. Don't worry about not sleeping through the night. This is how it will be for the first week or two. It will resolve itself as you become more comfortable and as you begin to "unwind" after such a traumatic experience. OHS is a shock to the body. Let your body and soul heal. They will, Jennifer, but it will take time.

Hi Jennifer, I just read the note that you sent me. So happy you are going home! You can always celebrate Thanksgiving with your dear family on another day, that's okay. Right now, on this Thanksgiving, you will be in their thoughts and they in yours. When we have something to be grateful for, it is Thanksgiving every day, especially when we pray. I wish you a speedy recovery. Just remember that there will be ups and downs--on some days you will be very strong and the next day you may need to hold on to the wall. It is a cycle, at least for the first few weeks. But, you did it! Be proud of yourself! Look at the sun! And may it radiate and shine on you and yours today and always.

Jennifer McInerney Thank you for your note Fay. I am staying one more night and then heading home. The doc. Was in here yesterday saying I’ll have good days and bad days. On the bad days I’ll need to push myself and on the good days restrain myself but I’m doing well and in six weeks I’ll be amazed at how good I feel. I actually find the work they have done is pretty amazing. Life will s good! I am so blessed and grateful. Of course today is Canadian Thanksgiving so even though I’m missing my turkey dinner with friends and family, many prayers of thanks are being said.

Jennifer McInerney Just updated journal. I’m doing well. I met the surgeon and really liked him. He is scheduling an angiogram and then I will have surgery approx. two weeks after that. I believe I am in Gods hands and he will help the surgeon. I’ll keep you posted on dates once I have them.
