great to hear it went well. my son had open heart surgery a year ago to repair a hole. he walked out 3 days latet. he's doing great. my daughter will need her aortic valve replaced within the next couple of years. she's 24 now and we've know since she was days old that she has a bicuspid aortic valve. it's amazing what they can do. wishing a speedy recovery.

Thinking of you, and I'm so glad your surgery went well! I was at Mount Sinai (7 West) only a week ago! I'm sure you'll see the nurses will provide the right bra you'll need (I just saw your earlier question), and they will even allow you to wear your own pajama bottoms and slippers if you like. I found all the nurses to be super-nice - Odette, Jean, Jill, Safia, Pat, Marina, Monica and Ross. I hope they are taking good care of you!

While the first few days were hard, I personally know that you can look forward to a new lease on life as seventy-one years young, I now feel and have the energy like I'm forty-five again. Good luck. I will start by saying that I had an aortic valve replacement and two by-passes a little over a year ago. (1 Nov 2013) I was 78 years old when I had my surgery, this month I will be 80. Like you I believe in God and that He is in control of all things. I went in surgery with the knowledge that in a few hours I would be in recovery or with my Lord Jesus Christ. That to me was a" win -win" situation. I knew my surgeon and the Hospital was the Mayo Clinic in Phoenix, AZ. I really expected everything to go as it did. The main problem I had at first was that breathing tube that kept me from being able to talk for a little while. Yes, there was some discomfort at first --but much less than I had expected. By the third day I was giving everyone a hard time (all in fun) and looking forward to my walks in the hallways. Read the book by Adam Pick, it will give you some insight into what to expect over the next few month's otherwise some things that are normal ( in recovery )may seem strange and scary. Remember to trust in GOD and ask him to guide you strengthen you. Remember He loves you.

I hope the surgery went well. I had my aortic valve replaced August 2013. Since then I have been doing great and I am thinking of you and your surgery today. I am from England and had my surgery in Oxford. I have a real close friend in Idaho who also had similar surgery November 2013 and she told me how amazing the heart surgeons are in the USA. I hope your surgery goes well and your recovery is smooth. Best wishes and prayers from the UK. Hannah Warner xxx

Good luck Janet. I'm sending you my prayers as you're probably undergoing the procedure as I write this. I'm heading in for aortic valve replacement later this month or next. I'm scared sh*tless, but from reading all the posts, I guess I shouldn't be so worried. Mine's getting done at Columbia Presbyterian. I could almost swear I've seen your picture before.

Sherry Stevens Janet, I am thinking of you as you are in surgery and recovery today. I had BAVR on Aug 13, 2014. Certainly the surgery is daunting and the first days are a lot of work; but wake up every day looking forward and your body will follow. I had a lot of support from this community for more than a year prior to my surgery. We are always here for each other with encouragement and experience to share. My prayers are with you for strength, peace and healing.

Janet, I had my aortic valve replaced by Dr. Stewart on December 2. I know what you mean about being scared, I basically waited until the last minute. However having finally manned up and had the operation, I can do nothing but praise Dr. Stewart, Dr Weiss and the rest of the staff at 7 West where you'll be recovering. I only needed narcotic pain relief twice during my stay and now 5 weeks later can barely see the scar. Good luck to you best wishes as you are in very capable hands.
