Hi Greg, my story is almost identical to yours, breathless 7 months ago, met cardiologist 2 months ago AVR this Friday. Now thankfully, happy with the choice of a bovine valve. Do you notice your valve at all?
Gregg Nissly I do not notice my bovine valve at all. I don't even think about it.
Gregg Nissly I do not notice my bovine valve at all. I don't even think about it.
I was symptomatic for about two years before I finally got surgery-in fact it was almost two years before I was diagnosed.
Now that I'm healed I have more endurance than even two years before I had symptoms.
The bovine was a great choice. You'll get to lead a completely normal life without those nasty blood thinners.
I'm sure you can't wait for Friday. I know I couldn't. Good luck to you.

Good morning Gregg. I hope you're doing well on this very cold day. I actually feel better every day and I am starting to miss my friends and the kids I take care of at North Allegheny School District. What part of Pittsburgh do you live in? I thought it might be fun to meet with you and your wife somewhere soon. We live in Ross Township but we're not opposed to meeting anywhere in the city. Let me know what you think.

Hi Gregg. Happy New Year. I just wanted to check in with you and see how you're doing. I am now 11 days post option and still having e few struggles, mainly shortness of breath and persistent left shoulder pain. I think I overestimated my abilities at this point. Although I have noticed I am sleeping better than I did with that bad valve. I hope you're doing well and like me, looking forward to much better health in 2016.

Gregg Nissly Thanks Frank. Merry Christmas to you and your family. I'm not sure when or if I'll start cardio rehab. I'm doing a lot of walking on my own and some exercise around the house. But I think a few cardio sessions would help.

Fab picture of you and Mom, and it was great talking to you today. Made me feel much better to hear how calm, and strong, you are about tomorrow. I've always been proud to be your brother, but never more so than today. You are one of my idols, and the best brother and friend a guy could ever hope to have. Love you loads, and good luck! You'll be fine!

Hi Gregg,
Be still and let God do the work. As a Caregiver for my late wife, we had to decide whether to opt for the type of valve. After going through multiple surgeries with different types of valves, she ended having a mitral tissue valve, and an aortic mechanical valve. Warfarin was always a challenge since it required monitoring to keep it within a normal INR range. Needless to say, it was a upward climb. Not an easy decision to make, but ask God to direct your steps. He has you in the palm of His hand, and wants the very best for you. I pray that your surgery goes well, and that ultimately you will feel better. Stay strong and in faith. God know what He is doing.
Gregg Nissly Thank you Julio for the kind words and encouragement.

Michael Bowes @daryl McCallum.. lol on your hallucinations. During my last surgery, they gave me one dose of Ultram... it was like being on cocaine (or so I am told), I didn't sleep for a week straight, anytime I closed my eyes, I saw large bugs with big eyes staring at me out of the walls calling my name. I hallucinated for two weeks after getting off of that drug. Horrible.. I still remember the nightmares and it has been 8 yrs!

Rita Savelis Definitely - the (too) long time on anasthesia, plus morphine in the ICU gives one hallucinations, which the medical staff tend to not talk about too much. And then Betablockers will give you very vivid dreams. This will all eventually pass but it's good to talk about it. I still (want to) think some of my hallucinations "happened".
