Hey Elim, saw your post, congrats! I too had open heart at Mt Sinai this past March, through the sternum. Talk about incredible exhaustion, when you wake up. Know that by days three and four you gain a lot more strength. They may have explained that you have lost considerable blood, so your hemoglobin is very low and accounts for a lot of your weakness. If you eat beef, try to get some soon to start building-up your hemoglobin, as well as protein shakes. Most of all, congrats on it being over and repaired!!!! Yahoo.

Elim, thinking of you. You will soon be in recovery! You're young and will heal quickly and onward to a healthier life. I was at Mt Sinai. Know that if you want something special to eat, they will usually get it for you! My loved ones also brought in protein shakes, which will give a energy burst to your low hemoglobin.

Elim, I just read your story and wanted to say you're going to be in excellent hands. My story is similar except my aortic regurgitation has been severe for a long time and I delayed surgery till a few weeks ago when I had the exact same Plan A & Plan B options you have on the table with Dr. Ismail El-Hamamsy at Mount Sinai. I ended up getting the Ross as the valve was deemed not repairable in my case, but I'm already feeling great, and barely have any pain less than 2 weeks out, feel free to reach out if you have any questions, would be happy to help in any way. You're going to be in excellent hands

Hi Elim, good luck with your surgery! i’m sure it will go great. Would love to hear how it goes and it goes. If you don’t mind me asking, was this aortic regurgitation due to bicuspid valve? My partner is in a similar condition but he was not offered the ross procedure and only offered mechanical valve. He’s also on the younger end. Wondering if we should ask for ross procedure.

Elim Schenck Yes, my aortic valve is bicuspid, which is causing the regurgitation. I would highly recommend at least seeing a surgeon that specializes in the Ross procedure to get their opinion.
