My surgery was 5 weeks ago as well and I returned to work yesterday. I went in for just a few hours, but could have done more. I also walked before I went in. We are so lucky to be where we are in this crazy journey.
Hi Cindy! Wow, great news on your checkup. Like I said, you are my hero! I am using you as my guidepost so to speak, just waiting on March and when I start to get a little nervous, I think of you and how well you did. Keep up the good work!
Hi Cindy, it's Linda again. I misspoke in my post to your guestbook earlier. I meant mini sternotomy, not thoracotomy. They will still cut the sternum but only about 3 or 4 inches. Got my terms mixed up!
Hi Cindy, hope your recovery is still going well. I read in your story that your aortic root was also dilated. Do you know what the measurement was? Did they repair that along with the valve replacement using the mini thoracotomy? And your final decision was tissue valve, right? I have a million questions, sounds like your surgery is very similar to what I need. Thanks for your help, I'm gonna check out your videos now!
Cindy...great job! Makes me very happy to read about your good progress. Also, I enjoyed your videos...brings back memories. At times it feels like yesterday but at others, like years (it's been 8 weeks).
I am home 4 days. Each day I see some progress. I am trying not to push myself too hard. I remember that we have stitches in our HEARTS and have to let them heal. My nights have been better than I expected. Keep us posted on your progress. We can compare notes. We are just days apart.
Thank you for sharing. Your journals are an inspiration and comfort. You are healing so quickly and your progress eases my fear of my upcoming surgery. Best Wishes for continued recovery. Janis Kielbasa
You are so amazing! I am so glad that everything went well with your surgery, and to hear that you may be going home by Thursday. I echo the sentiments that many others have voiced; God is good!
How are all of your other injuries from the motorcycle accident healing? I pray that you are doing well. You are such a strong woman!
I am so happy that you have your wonderful husband and your beautiful daughter there with you, along with other family. I saw your FB post that Beth just turned 14! Please wish her a very happy belated birthday for me. Time goes so fast; savor every moment with your family.
May you and all of your family enjoy a very blessed holiday season! Merry Christmas...now go rest and get better soon!
Just reading your journal. Making the decision between the tissue valve and the mechanical one is so tricky. I chose the tissue valve because my surgeon indicated there was almost as much chance of a serious bleed from the blood thinners and needing surgery as doing the op again in 15 years.
In the midst of recovery I am thinking what have I done. But 15 years is a long time and I am hoping for non invasive procedures in the future.
Its not easy but there are other worse operations recovery wise. So good luck - and best wishes.
I'm praying for a successful surgery and speedy recovery, without complications. I know you will do well because you have such a positive attitude. Keep your eyes on Jesus, and with him run the race set before you. God Bless
Thank you for signing my guest book. I wish you the best of luck with your upcoming surgery, you will be well on your way to recovery before you know it. I'm 2 and a half weeks out, and it has gone by so fast. I look forward to reading about your progress. My husband has definitely been an angle, I hope that yours continues to be as well...you will need him!! God bless you!
Cindy! I teach band at Northwestern MS in Alpharetta!!!! I had my mitral and aortic valves replaced this past summer at Piedmont Hospital. My surgeon gave me a few zanex for a few days before the surgery. I slept really well leading up to surgery. You might want to do the same.
You will do fine! I will say some prayers for you!
Think your journal is wonderful. Please continue to keep us up to date and let us know if there is anything we can do to help you get on the road to recovery. Thoughts and prayer are always with you & your family. God Bless! Patti Yoder
I love this journal!! What a great way to keep everyone up to date on your journey. Cindy, before you know it, you will be on the road to recovery. With all the love and prayers going out to you I am sure you will be up and around very quickly. Your favorite sister. :O)
Hey girlie! You know I will be with you through all of this. I can hop on my moto and be to you in no time! You are going to be recovered and feeling great in record time. I am so proud to have you as a friend. I admire your courage and sense of adventure. Dont ever change!
Cindy...I was exactly where you are a couple months ago. It's something you think about constantly and deciding on what type of valve was the biggest stress for me. I finally picked tissue simply due to lifestyle reasons. I am very active, as it appears you are too. It is definitely a tough, tough decision but whatever you decide it will be the right choice.
The surgery will go fine and you will do great. Just be positive and do everything they tell you. You will recover quickly and be on your way thru recovery before you know it.
