Hi Al, I never asked my doctors about cutting the grass since my sons take care of it; however, they told me that my sternum around the break forms a thick callus that eventually hardens and remodels into new bone. I would imagine that when you're back playing softball, you'll be back starting your lawn mower.

Hi Al, Great to meet you and welcome to our community! Like you, I also needed aortic valve surgery. It's nine years later and I have returned to all the physical activities I enjoyed prior to surgery - swimming, biking, skiing, running, golf, etc. So you know, my big concern was that I wouldn't be able to Scuba dive after surgery. As you can see in the post below, I've even returned to the waters for several dives after surgery. http://www.heart-valve-surgery.com/heart-surgery-blog/2007/07/27/scuba-diving-after-heart-valve-surgery/ I'm hopeful that your recovery is smooth and your healing is quick.
