Susan Lynn I'm like Rose. I had a wedge pillow, but opted for a group of arranged pillows. It's important to have options as you will likely have preferences that change from one day to the next and throughout your recovery. Good luck!

Daneen Douglas I went back and forth between the wedge and pillows, wedge only, and pillows only. 3 weeks later, I’m now very comfortable sleeping on just 2 pillows. Awesome to be able to sleep mostly flat! You just have to experiment because in the beginning it’s very difficult to sleep comfortably.

Robert Miller I used a motorized recliner for the first 10 days or so. Then I slept in our bed with a wedge pillow. It makes getting in an out a lot easier. But it's not very comfortable. I did use a pillow that I put between the transition of the bed to the wedge pillow, i.e. my lower back area. If you do that, try different pillow sizes and thicknesses. It's still not very comfortable but as I said, it makes getting in an out of the bed easier. They are not very expensive. Give it a try and also try what the other people recommended (just using pillows). Chose what works best for you.

Hello! For those with type1 diabetes- how was insulin delivery handled during surgery, and how soon in recovery were you able to take insulin control back? I use an insulin pump AND a continuous glucose monitor. Good control aids healing, and that’s my goal, as I’ll b recovering from a mitral valve repair. Thanks

susan harris I am not an HCP but worked for a diabetes pharma company for guests. Ask the hospital what their insulin protocol is. Many still use sliding scale! And won’t let you manage yourself! Will your heart surgeon consult with your endo and follow their reco? Great if it’s the same hospital.
