I'm wondering if other hvr patients experience trouble with balance after surgery? ?? Ever since, I can fall off balance at any moment. Walking down a dark hallway is the very worst. If I visit the bathroom at night- I have to hold my hand on the wall or I will tip over. It's downright comical! Doctors say it has nothing to do with my heart surgery, however nothing else changed in my life. I seriously tip over several times a week if not a day. I would like to hear from others who have experienced this. (It doesn't have to be the same intensity) It would be good to try to figure out what is the cause to this effect.

Marilyn Zack Hi Susan, your story sounds exactly like mine. I was given Metropolol after my heart valve surgery and began falling all the time and for any reason or none, just as you describe. Had no idea why I was falling because I never felt dizzy. I never thought of a medication reaction. IBy chance, my doctor discontinued Metoprolol because I was taking something else and I didn't need both. Within a day, the falling stopped completely and has never returned. If you are taking it, it might be the culprit.

Phyllis Petersen I've had moments like this, especially getting up at night. It isn't all the time or so problematic that I've really thought much about it. I'm off of metoprolol and all pain meds, so am curious to know if others are experiencing this.

James Roberts Yeh I still get bouts of dizziness 11 months after surgery. Sometimes it's so bad I can't stand and have to sit down for a few minutes. No idea what's causing it, but I'm only on a small dose of bisoprolol (1.25mg) so don't think its that. I think it's linked to exercise / overdoing it which I still find easy to do.

Rose Madura I'm no doctor but I think it's from the Metoprolol or any other beta blocker. I've had dizzy spells off and on ever since the surgery. I see my cardiologist in a few weeks and hope he takes me off of it.
