I recently had double valve ( mitral repair, aortic replacement) surgery at the Cleveland clinic with Dr. Marc A. Gillinov. My valves are working very well. I have, however, developed a post pericadiotomy syndrome requiring 2 pericardial windows, subxyphoid and left minithoracotomy in the 3 months after my original surgery. Still draining from a left pleural catheter due to spillage from the pericardium. Was on colchicine and naproxen, now on a Medrol dose pack. Looking for folks with a similar experience.

Rose Madura I hand my surgery on a Wednesday, sent home from hospital on the following Monday evening. Less than 24 hours after coming home, my husband called 911 because something was wrong. My BP was 50/0 and heart rate 180. I was readmitted (1 of 4) and send home a few days later after I converted out of Afib. One week later, same thing and my heart stopped in ER for just a short time (less than 10 seconds). This time, they realized I was very symptomatic to Afib and had another surgery for put in a pericardial window. I had two more readmissions, one for pleural effusion and one for Afib. All this within six weeks. Hang tight and trust the doctors. God please you. Stay strong.

Danielle Elizabeth I hope you’re hanging in there. I had plural effusion 2 weeks after my surgery but after the 750 mL was drained from around my left lung, I started recovering, but it was all so painful 10/10 needle sensations in my lungs with every minor breath. I’m glad they are monitoring you. I had a little fluid around my heart for about 8 weeks post surgery but it gradually went away on its own.
