Hi I am sanjay from INDIA. I am 55 yrs now. I have been diagnosed with mitral valve stenosis having valve opening of 0.9 cm sq. I have been advised to under go valve replacement. I will be thankful if some one can share their view on type of valve that will most benificial. Either bio prosthetic or mechanical. Also after valve replacement whether the health condition improves noticeably

Reghu Madathil Hi Sanjay its no right or wrong answers both have their pros and cons. I am scheduled for Aortic valve replacement. I am going with Bovine valve ( prothetic). It was up to me to decide and I did not want to go through anticoagulant. I might have to go for another surgery in 12 -15 years is what my surgeon said. Mine is the Aortic valve replacement. Joy Vera Hi Sanjay. I just received my second aortic valve (1st one 9 years ago) along with a mitral valve repair & a section of my aorta was replaced. For both valve replacements, I chose tissue to avoid blood thinners. There are advantages to the mechanical valves too though as I understand they should last one’s lifetime. The first valve I chose was equine & fairly new to the market & didn’t prove to be as long lasting so this time I went with a bovine valve recommended by my surgeon. The right choice differs person to person so just read as much as you can, much of which can be found on this website, & talk it over with your surgeon before you make your decision. Best wishes.

SANJAY MEHTA Susan, Reghu and Joy, Thanks to all of you for the information provided
I have decided to go for tissue valve after detail discussion with my cardiologist.Due mitral stenosis problem I was on warferin for quiet some time but i faces lot of problem like burping and acidity.I lost @ 5-6 kgs in last 1 yr hence decided for tissue valve to avoid anticoagulant .As per earlier plan i was to under go procedure by may end but since i was having chills and fever again and again my doctor told me that there could be viral infection in the body and can not operate in this condition. They have collected blood samples for culture test to find out what bacteria is causing infection. The doctors are planning for 4-6 weeks antibiotic injection course and operation will be planned later on once i am free from viral infection.
I am really worried and I hope every thing goes well till operation.
