Hi,
I am 34 year old male recently diagnosed with bicuspid aortic valve with moderate to severe regurgitation and enlarged LV and aortic dilation of 42mm. My cardiac surgeon has recommended surgery to replace with a mechanical valve however when I went for second opinion to a cardiologist, he recommended that I do not require surgery at the moment. I am confused on what should I do.

Grace Mason I would get a second opinion on timing for intervention since your regurg is moderate to severe and LV is enlarged. As Abhishek mentioned, the aortic dilation would be closer to 50 mm to indicate surgery for that reason.
Sameer Mirza Thanks @Grace and @Abhishek. I will definitely get a second opinion on this.

Dan Fouratt Sameer, My doctor is recommending surgery on 3/21/24 and I am going forward with it. I have sent all my records to a friend who happens to be a top cardiologist in another state. His advice is unfiltered. He said that if it was him, he would probably wait a year or two, regardless I will be having a new valve before I am 66. (Currently 63) If i was ready today go get it done. He continued my stenosis will only get worse and not improve as I wait. He said it was up to me and neither decision is wrong. Do what is right for you. I decided today is better then somewhere in the future. Good luck on your decision journey.
