Gerald Schaffer Roger, I'm 61 but your surgery is before mine so I can't help you other than to wish you well. Many people your age and older have had this surgery with success so there's no reason you can't also. Whenever I start having doubts I remind myself that Barbara Walters had a valve replacement and if she can handle it there's no reason why I can't.

Jean Raber Roger, my mother was 82 when she had her AVR. The docs said most of their patients are in their 70s and 80s. You are a youngster. The valve replacement is considered the worst of the procedures. I would say that by the end of the first year, she was doing much better than before the surgery. She was not very compliant, so if you do what they say, you may do better sooner, especially since you're 10 years younger. If you want more info about her saga, you can contact me through my guestbook. My bet is that you'll do very well.
